MBFW - Kelvin Harries

For the past few days, I've had the privilege of working as an assistant alongside Kelvin Harries and his team. Kelvin is known to be one of the most influential stylists in Australian fashion. Kelvin is responsible for the styling and casting of all the David Jones fashion shows and works alongside some of the greatest Australian designers to help style and develop their collections.

Kelvin and his team have put together a monster of a show for the up and coming Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The show consists of over 260 looks featuring outfits from over 40 designers ranging from everyday wear to evening gowns. Just for the sake of name dropping, some of the designers featured include:

So yesterday, my fellow assistant Maria mustered up the confidence to ask if we were allowed to take photos, and to our surprise, we were! Unfortunately, I don't own a decent camera and had to settle for my Blackberry's 2.0 megapixel camera.

I tried to discreetly capture as much of the room as I could, although we were allowed to, I still felt a little guilty taking photos. But because I want to share this experience with you guys, here are a few snaps of some of my favourite pieces in the show

And being the shoe obsessed creature that I am, I chose a few of my favourite shoes from the show. There are so many more, hopefully I'll be able to get a photo of them by the end of the week.

How AMAZING are these Camilla Skovgaard heels? They came in that single pair alone in this gorgeous angular shaped box. I was in love before I opened it. That metal plate that gets strapped around the ankle just about does it for me. And don't even get me started on the claw detailing around the heel of those Friend of Mine boots. Sigh. Now if only I had about $3000 - $4000 lying around... I'd be able to make these babies all mine. Until then I'll just have to sit by and stroke them ever so gently and perhaps occasionally nuzzle them in between fittings with models. 

Speaking of models, I may have to crush a few preconceived ideas people may have about models. They're gorgeous people, inside and out. Some are so shy, its so adorable. Oh and remember the comforting fact that models although beautiful, tall and slender are flat chested? crushed. gone. annihilated. Never again will I be able to console myself with the fact that I've got something they don't, a chest. Because they're there. I've been fitting models all week and just about all of them were B-C cup, I swear we had a D once. I know, it's a shallow thought to have, but it was nonetheless comforting. keyword. was...

But enough about that, I have to show you guys this beautiful model I met yesterday. Her name's Yifan. She's a Chinese/Mongolian model and she's probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. She's so reserved and modest it was endearing but when she walked she was poised, confident and so elegant, it was breath taking. 

I can honestly say, shes more beautiful in person.

Nerding It Up

WARNING: If you're expecting an outfit post or anything fashion related, stop reading now because the following contains text that may or may not bore you to death. If however you don't mind reading a little fluff, I'm about to reveal a little about myself..

You may not have guessed this, but I'm a little bit of a nerd. I spent a good majority of my junior years in high school playing MMORPG's (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Games) such as Ragnarok, Counter-Strike and the infamous World of Warcraft. As I matured, so did my taste in games. My mother had bought my younger brother a playstation 3 for christmas with the full expectation that he'd love and cherish the console as much as any other normal 15year old boy would. Little did she know that it would be I who would become one with said console. The first game I bought was Assassin's Creed and it was downhill (in regard to my academics) from there. I spent more hours than I care to share playing games instead of studying or sleeping.

As well as being a complete game fiend, I'm a sucker for plotless, mind-blowing action movies. Especially those with ridiculously clad and slightly narcissistic protagonists (Ironman is my favourite). So you can imagine my excitement when I saw that the new Captain America movie was coming to Australian theatres.

Two weeks after the release, I finally took the time to go and see it. After a gorgeous dinner at The Meat & Wine Co. my friend Crystal and I stocked up on junk and settled into our seats, geared for the movie to begin. 

Unfortunately the movie itself wasn't the greatest. Aside from a glorified, semi-naked Chris Evans the action sequences left my adrenal glands a little underwhelmed. It was however, after the credits had rolled and the cinema emptied, when the easter egg was revealed that I was hooked. A concentrated dosage of awesome packed into thirty-seconds of footage had me bouncing at the edge of my seat, slapping Crystal with excitement. This small snapshot of what's to come in the anticipated 2012 release of The Avengers makes me want to read all the comics. It makes me want to dig myself a little hole, wall myself in, and read them all - without coming up for oxygen.

It's 3am and instead of sleeping I'm going to catch up on the movies featuring the heroes which form The Avengers, beginning with Thor. Nothing like a little Chris Hemsworth and mythical weapons to get you going! 

PS: How gorgeous is Hayley Atwell?! She looks so chic yet demure in beautiful ensembles which flaunt her perfect, hourglass, silhouette. She even has sexy 40's pin-up style curls to match!

Falling Into Place

Hi there, Welcome to justonemore. 

My name is Linda and I'm a first year student studying Business at the University of Technology, Sydney. 

I'm a notorious shopaholic and have an irrational addiction to shoes. Hence the name justonemore, because despite the fact that over 60% of my wardrobe is brand new with tags still attached, I always manage to convince myself that I need more. With me, when I tell you I bought four pairs of shoes in a week -

I'm not exaggerating. not. one. bit.

I've been meaning to start up a blog for a while now and the beautiful Jessica from JessLovesFred finally convinced me to do it and helped me get everything up and running. This blog would be nothing without her, so thank you darling!

And without further ado, my first outfit post:

Last week, Jess and I, whilst basking in the winters sun on a bench in Hyde Park, began making spontaneous plans to clear out an entire day and spend it cruising around Sydney and before we were forced to leave by the swarm of mosquitoes, it was set in stone. 
A week later, the weather had deteriorated to a mediocre overcast with short episodes of sunshine but we were no less excited to make Sydney our temporary stomping ground. 
Our little trip went like something along these lines: 
City + coffee -> Rose Bay -> The Gap (cliff climbing in heels, it's possible) -> Sydney Fish Markets -> Rushcutters Bay -> Lost trying to find a bathroom -> Rose Bay -> Jessica's house for takeout pasta

And to top it all off, as we were driving around Kings Cross trying to manoeuvre our way through peak hour traffic in search of the closest public restroom, I received a call from the lovely people at Miro Door and was offered the opportunity to be a stylists assistant for next weeks Mercedes Benz Fashion Week fittings! I cannot wait to lay eyes on the latest collections from the countless designers that will be featured. So for the next week I will be slaving away in amongst the fashion elite from 9-7, unable to attend uni and loving every moment!
Not only that, but I will also be volunteering backstage at the actual festival which will take place from the 23rd - 27th of August at Sydney's Town Hall. 
Now if only I had a camera to document all this excitement, not that I'd be allowed to take photos... Nonetheless, I'll be sure to tell you guys how it all goes!
